OVERVIEW :
The purpose of this position is to service the materials engineering needs of Commercial Vehicle Systems. This is accomplished through active involvement with the divisions and directing and conducting materials characterizations.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Testing and evaluation of greases, liquid lubricants, polymers, organic and inorganic coatings. Analytical techniques may include the use of infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis and chromatography. Measurement of polymers' mechanical properties may also be included
Consults with CVS departments on materials and process-related issues and problems.
Participates on the Specification Committee.
Writes or modifies materials and process specifications as requested by customers.
Acts in a safe manner and promotes/oversees safe practices within the group.
Participates in vendor audits. Works with suppliers to improve product and service quality.
Maintains a good working relationship with support personnel from Engineering and Manufacturing. Fosters a team atmosphere within Materials Engineering.
Directs and conducts equipment calibration and maintenance. Participates in quality programs.
Keeps abreast of technology regarding new materials, material processes, materials characterization opportunities and laboratory equipment.
Participates in materials and process development projects; communicates pertinent information in a timely and effective manner.
Performs analyses, interprets data and writes reports to satisfy requestors' needs and reduce laboratory backlog.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
B.S. Chemistry with 2 to 8 years of laboratory experience as described above.
Knowledge of environmental testing, plating, phosphating and paint application processes is desirable.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Possess and exhibit high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder (ITAR Required).
