Description ATK Aerospace Structures is seeking Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership to the Arrow 3 Rocket Motor Case program.

As Chief Engineer, the successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team to execute a challenging composite design, development, and production program for Arrow 3. He or she will be involved in every phase of the program life cycle, from design and development through full rate production, and be responsible for coordinating the activities of all engineering disciplines including composite case design, stress analysis, tooling, manufacturing engineering, and material and process engineering. A key element of this position will be providing an effective technical interface to the customer. Position will require extensive travel to Iuka and Huntsville.
Leadership / Management Responsibilities:
Strong interpersonal skills and effective interface with production, functional support groups and customers at all levels
High level of organizational skills and ability to function and make sound decisions with minimal direction
Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve required results in a matrix organization of program/plant support groups, including documentation and reporting of task status to the program, plant and customer
Effective planning and risk mitigation skills with consideration for program objectives and big picture impacts
Presentation preparation and presentation skills

Technical Responsibilities:
Coordinate, review, and integrate all technical activities required to develop, qualify, and produce a new rocket motor case design
Engineering Material Review (EMR), manage EMR authority/EMR bulletin, disposition/C&CA effectiveness
Serve as mentor for engineers, support and production personnel that support the program; Support development and maintenance of the Program Plan; Serve as primary technical interface with customer and between Program and the plant
Lead technical problem resolution affecting program processes and products; Lead and support continuous improvement of Program processes, materials and technology.
Support supplier management in supplier technical issues, process control, lean development and effective C&CA.

Systems / Process Responsibilities
Functional knowledge of, and leading teams in, the use of process improvement tools (e.g. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma)
Effective application of SPC and Six Sigma methods to composite manufacturing processes and training of others in their use
Technical problem resolution with experience in using, and leading teams in the use of, problem analysis tools (e.g. Kepner Tregoe, Fishbone, Fault-tree, etc.)

Requirements:
B. S. in Engineering or Technical field (MS and/or MBA desired)
Ten (10) years of engineering experience in the areas of composite structural design, mfg and process engineering, systems integration engineering and/or project engineering in support of high value aerospace manufacturing
Proven ability to define procedures, write manufacturing instructions, and implement processes that produce positive results
Process improvement practices (Six Sigma, LEAN, or other continuous improvement)
Good understanding of Engineering and Quality systems, and program plans
Strong background in change control and configuration management
Problem analysis tools
Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Preferred Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Strong knowledge of composite case design, analysis, and manufacturing methods
Knowledge of filament winding and other manufacturing processes
Management / supervisory experience leading teams (engineering, production, project or other)
Supplier Management of technical issues
