Description We are seeking a preparation technician four our chemistry lab analytical operations to assist in performing laboratory procedures relating to sample preparation and assist in instrumental analyses, outsourcing and report generation.   This is a full time temporary position


  1. With instructions, accurately prepare, pre-treat, and/or concentrate samples in advance of instrumental analysis for chemical contaminants (pesticides, banned substances, metals, etc.) in food and related matrices. 
  2. Provide assistance to other laboratory personnel for instrumental analyses relating to dietary supplement program (i.e. vitamins, minerals, botanicals, sugar, etc.).  Determine and record weight/serving information as necessary.  Enter information in LIMS system as needed.
  3. Perform wet chemical analyses relating to NLEA mandatory labeling requirements (moisture, protein, ash, fat, etc.) for food, vendor quality and related samples.
  4. Perform exposures and analyses associated with food contact material evaluations according to 21 CFR procedures.
  5. With direction, perform all applicable corporate and laboratory quality control procedures.
  6. Meet turnaround time commitments and make suggestions to increase efficiency.
  7. Assist and coordinate outsourcing of samples to contract laboratories as warranted by the required analyses in the area of food and dietary supplements.
  8. Participate in being cross-trained with other laboratory staff in order to alleviate the workload in key laboratory areas when high sample volumes are experienced (i.e. extraction laboratory).
  9. Assist in preparation and issuing of laboratory reports relating to new business areas (dietary supplements, foods, vendor quality, etc.)  Ensure coordination with all applicable reviewers/departments.
  10. Prepare all records (data, notebooks, and instrument books) in a timely, thorough, and neat manner.
  11. Assure adherence to all safety and health policies and procedures.
  12. Participate in GLP training/studies as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in physical science
  2. One year related work experience or an Associate degree and two years laboratory work related experience. 
  3. Familiarity with general laboratory instrumentation and procedures.
  4. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in chemistry or food science or an Associate degree in a related field and three years of laboratory experience in a related field.
  2. Good organization skills and a strong ability to take direction from multiple sources.
  3. Experience in sample preparation techniques relating to food and related samples.
  1. Writing in laboratory notebooks and completing tasks via the company LIMS system.
  2. Knowledge and experience with laboratory QA/QC plans and procedures.

6.       Be able to manipulate and read syringes in order to transfer small volumes of liquid.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

1.       Light physical effort required (ability to lift and empty solvent or reagent containers or move 5 to 10lbs. from one area to another).

2.       Standing for long periods of time is necessary periodically.

3.       Working with various organic solvents, chemical analytes, reagents, acids, and bases is necessary.

4.       Safety glasses must be worn at all times in lab areas.
