Duties:

This individual will be responsible for understanding and documenting the technical aspects of the NCS GIS systems and methodologies. To become familiar with and be able to write about the technologies, tools, and processes to support the GIS database. Specifically, the technical writer will build and maintain documentation relating to GIS data collection and extraction, the tools and methodologies utilized to maintain GIS data, the server and workstation hardware and software footprints and configurations, processes and procedures relating to the administration of our GIS systems, and requirements and specifications for software tools and applications. Web page design and static page authoring will also be an expectation.
The technical writer will be expected to manage several active projects at a time and utilize the full Microsoft Office suite of products (including Visio and Project), Microsoft Sharepoint, Adobe PDF document publishing software, and screen capture and editing software.


Qualifications:
Bachelor degree or equivalent technical writing training and experience required. A minimum of two years applied experience is required. A technical background in transportation (railroad preferred), GPS and/or LiDAR data collection, GIS systems, and software development is desired. Working knowledge of all ESRI Products is required.
Ideal candidates will have strong experience in GIS and have a working knowledge of 9.x ESRI software products, including ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcIMS, SDE GeoDatabases, and ArcGIS extensions within a Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS. A background in data processing and software development is a plus.
Must be safety conscious and able to support and contribute to a strong safety process.
