The Clinical Nurse Specialist functions as a practitioner, coordinator, consultant, educator, and researcher within the nursing specialty areas. Will also be a member of the Kindred Hospital/Hospital Division patient care services team. Directs, guides, provides and/or evaluates direct and indirect care to acute and outpatient oncology patients and families by utilizing physical and psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation techniques based on research and advanced oncology nursing knowledge. Collaborates with the Education department to assess, conduct, and evaluate programs for staff development and competency determination from the oncology perspective. Serves as a preceptor, mentor, and facilitator of learning in LTAC nursing practice for Kindred Healthcare/Hospital Division Hospitals staff. Serves as a resource to departmental, interdepartmental, administrative, and regional staff regarding nursing practice. Facilitates through education, a patient, family's or community's decision-making process regarding the initiation, completion or revision of the comprehensive treatment or action plan. Coordinates care of selected complex patients utilizing resource availability, accessibility, quality and cost effectiveness. Acts as a resource to promote, maintain, restore, rehabilitate or provide nursing care to the patient, family, community and environment through individual counseling, facilitation of support groups, and/or through community education and Memorial Foundation activities. Writes reviews and updates LTAC nursing policies & procedures within the standards and scope of practice defined by professional, institutional, and regulatory agency relations/standards. Identifies recurrent problems and system deficiencies and participates in quality improvement processes in LTAC related departments as needed. Participates in patient care services activities and performs other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate from an accredited baccalaureate (BSN) school of nursing. Masters degree (MSN) in nursing with Long Term Acute Care (LTAC,) medical surgical or rehab specialty focus, including hazards of immobility. Licenses/Certification: Current registration with the State Board of Registered Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification CNS Nursing Certification BLS level Advanced Practice Nursing Certification Experience: Minimum two years experience in med/surg facility.
