Under the direction of the Disabled Students Program and Services, the Interpreter will be assigned to interpret classes, meetings, tutoring sessions and special events for deaf and hard of hearing students using various modes of manual and oral communication.

Minimum Requirements: 

• Possession of High School Diploma or equivalent. Beginning proficiency in the use of sign language (ASL or signed English).  Entry level skills in interpretation/transliteration using ASL or signed English as determined by evaluation.  100 hours of volunteer or paid interpreting experience.  Enrolled in Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or recent graduate or equivalent.

 

• Knowledge of English grammar, syntax, American Sign Language, Signed English, Signing Exact English (SEE), Finger spelling and Oral interpreting.  Knowledge of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Ethics.

Salary & Benefits: 

Starting salary is $13.00  to $45.00 per hour.
