Job Description


Leading consumer products distributor in the South Bay has an immediate opening for an Assistant Controller. 
This is a rare opportunity to work for a stable, growing company who offers a consistent work/life balance. Department generally works a 40-45 hour work week. Company also has a highly competitive benefit package.

We are looking for local candidates only. Qualified candidates will have at least 8 years experience preferably public/private.
3-6 years in public accounting (prefer Big 4 or National level firms) and 3-6 years in private. Straight public will also work.
A CPA license (or working towards it) is required).

Assistant Controller
$120-$140K

Responsibilities:

  • Month-end accounting close
    • Responsible for month-end close calendar and managing direct report staff as well as staff in other departments to complete and provide inputs to the close (i.e. cost accountants, payroll, tax, etc.)
    • Review and gather analysis of departmental and overall company results
    • Consolidation of US and Canada entities into one consolidated set of financial statements
      • Some basic familiarity with foreign exchange in order to properly consolidate the Canadian books
      • Generate and issue reporting package of Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow
    • Oversee 2 -3 direct reports (general accountant, fixed asset and payroll specialist)
      • Review account reconciliations
  • Manage Annual GAAP Audit with Ernst & Young
    • Main contact point with auditors
    • Manage, gather and/or prepare auditor requests
    • Responsible for draft of audited statements with GAAP footnotes with input of other staff
  • Technical Accounting Resource
    • Should have general GAAP accounting background to be familiar with (or can up to speed quickly) specific areas such as:
      • Accounting for stock options
      • Acquisition or purchase price accounting
      • Accounting for debt financing costs
      • Impairment testing for goodwill and intangibles
      • Environmental reserves
  • Manage other reporting needs throughout the year (i.e. governmental)
  • Support potential acquisition analysis and due diligence
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements

 

 

Job Requirements

 

 

 

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a bachelors degree in a related discipline (finance, accounting, economics)  along with a minimum of 8 years experience preferably a mix of public and private. 2-6 years in public accounting (prefer Big 4 or National level firms) and 2-6 years in private. Straight public will also work.
