Attorney/Director of Employee & Labor Relations
•JD and Kansas bar admission
•5-10+ years relevant experience
•Knowledge and experience in employee relations and labor (union) relations, as related to the responsibilities described above.
•Knowledge of relevant US law is required. Some knowledge of relevant Canadian law is preferred. Some knowledge and/or familiarity with relevant UK law would be a plus.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to successfully communicate with people at all levels of the organization, up to and including the Board of Directors.
The Attorney/Director of Employee & Labor Relations will handle a wide range of employee and labor relations matters. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Handling day-to-day employee relations and labor relations matters as they arise
•Advising and counseling human resources professionals on matters related to human resources, employee relations, and labor relations
•Developing and conducting training on topics related to employee and labor relations (e.g., procedures and best practices related to investigations, grievances, and compliance)
•Developing the terms of offers of employment and related agreements
•Developing severance of employment terms and related agreements
•Participating in investigations (working in conjunction with legal counsel as needed)
•Creating and implementing a company-wide labor relations strategy, encompassing the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom
•Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating collective bargaining agreements
•Developing strike contingency plans
•Assisting with grievance resolution
•Engaging outside legal counsel as appropriate, particularly for litigation and when expertise in non-US law is required.
•Gaining a basic understanding of Canadian and United Kingdom employee and labor relations law to improve efficiency in working with foreign legal counsel.
