Open Until Filled The Matanuska Experiment Farm (MEF), part of the School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences and the Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, provides management, land, labor and a variety of specialized facilities for agricultural and environmental research studies and extension educational and outreach activities for the benefit of Alaskans throughout the state. The MEF was established in 1917 as an USDA Agricultural Research Station and was transferred to University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1932. The farm encompasses 950 acres with 200 acres of maintained fields and 750 acres of forested land and lakes. The MEF also houses an 8,500 sq. ft. soils and plant analysis laboratory. The experiment farm has a complete complement of farm equipment and maintenance facilities to produce and harvest forage (both hay and baleage) and other crops.
