Job Responsibilities of the Backup and Recovery Manager:

  • This position will be responsible for managing the daily activities for ensuring the security and integrity of company data, databases, information systems, and technology.

  • Provides guidance to and coordinates the efforts of staff members in the development of recovery procedures for key areas of the organization.

  • Analyzes environmental and equipment configurations for critical corporate resources; recommends disaster avoidance measures and improved backup capabilities.

  • Periodically reviews changes in corporate resources with the management of those areas to assure the effectiveness of the recovery procedures and backup capabilities.

  • Conducts business impact analyses and assists company units to determine critical business processes, identifies acceptable recovery time periods, and establishes resources required for the successful resumption of business operations in the event of a disaster

  • Establishes disaster recovery testing methodologies; plans and coordinates the testing of recovery support and business resumption procedures in different functional areas. Assures that recovery procedures are effective for the restoration of key corporate resources and for the resumption of critical business processes.

  • Conducts disaster recovery training for staff members in all functional areas. Provides instructional and informational materials on how staff are expected to respond during an emergency. Assists divisions in the assignment and training of staff. Develops and maintains standards and procedures for disaster recovery documentation. Maintains a library of recovery support and business resumption procedures

  • Develops corporate emergency response procedures; distributes and updates emergency procedures to reflect changes in staff size, location, organization, and home office facilities. Monitors the effectiveness of procedures during evacuation drills and revises the procedures as necessary. Maintains a library of emergency response procedures.

  • Works with vendors of disaster recovery services and facilities; studies and recommends outside services for use during a disaster situation.

  • Works with management to ensure that as new equipment, facilities, services, and systems are installed that the disaster recovery issues are addressed.

  • Install, upgrade and configure TSM servers.

  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs as required.

  • Implements configuration changes or enhancements by customer request.

  • The position will require some on-call responsibilities as an escalation point for Operations.

 Requirements

Qualifications of the Backup and Recovery Manager:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Information Management, or a related field; or the equivalent in education and work experience.

  • Knowledge and understanding of current disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies as well as the methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analyses.

  • Working knowledge of data processing in order to assist in the preparation of recovery procedures in this area.

  • Must have advanced experience with Tivoli Storage Manager versions 5.5 - 6.4 running on both AIX and Linux.

  • Knowledgeable about storage pools, device classes, policy management, retention versions concepts and command line syntax.

  • Knowledge/experience working with various tape libraries such as IBM 3584 and 3310.

  • Experience with TSM, version 5.5.3 - 6.2.4; Experience supporting TSM across Windows, Linux, HP-UX and AIX.

  • Knowledge of TDP for SQL, Oracle and DB2.

  • Knowledgeable of high availability concepts for systems, databases and applications.

  • Familiar with virtualization technology and related backup methods.

  • Good project management skills. Ability to plan, organize and direct the testing of emergency response, recovery support, and business resumption procedures.

  • Extensive experience with at least one of SuSE Linux, AIX or HP/UX.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and disk-based backup solutions.

  • Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environments and concepts.

  • Ability to write detailed scripts in at least one, preferably two administrative languages, (shell scripts, Perl, Tk).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills: capable of training users in complex topics, making presentations to internal groups.

  • Good oral communication and written communication skills.

  • Independent problem solving; self-directed, self-starting.

 

The Backup and Recovery Manager is a direct hire opportunity with one of our clients in Morrisville, NC, with a target salary of up to $110,000. A local candidate is strongly preferred, but client will consider relocation assistance for the right candidate. No sponsorship available.
