RPG Programmer

• Exciting RPG programming opportunity; 6+ month contract duration

• Experienced and technical individual to perform duties that include designing, developing and maintaining System i applications using RPG IV, RPG Free, Embedded SQL RPG and SQL Stored Procedures.

•  Provides technical consultation and support in the development of computer applications and programs.  Analyzes business requirements, designs and writes technical specifications to design or redesign computer solutions.  Develops original and/or complex code or provides coding guidance to less experienced staff. Leads and/or performs modeling, simulations and analysis efforts.  Develops new documentation, participates in the development of department technical procedures and processes.

• Acts as an escalation point for production troubleshooting guidance; provides training and mentoring to less experienced developers; uses knowledge of web technologies to lead projects resulting in functional enhancements of web-based applications; leads design presentations; influences direction and implements the most efficient and cost-effective software/package solution; oversees contractors on projects

   

• 5+ years of experience in programming embedded-SQL RPG.

•  5+ years of experience in programming in RPG Free.

• Minimal 2+ years experience with System i SQL Stored Procedure development; proven ability to read, write, and analyze performance of and performance tune complex SQL queries.

• Experience in using the WDSC (RDi) development platform.

• Ability to effectively communicate with individuals within all levels of technical and non-technical skills sets (i.e. Developers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Quality Assurance analysts and external Customers).

• In depth understanding of Software Development Methodologies.
  Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

• Experience in being a lead programmer (Delivery Manger) on large projects; responsible for development and delivery.  

•  Experience in managing other full time programmers and/or contract programmers, either directly or through a dotted-line

•  Demonstrated ability to work as the only developer in a fast paced environment with the ability to multi-task and complete projects from design to implementation.

• Self-starter, strong desire to learn, contribute and think creatively

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

  
  

  Strongly Preferred Skills:

• Experience with using the System i Navigator, Navigator SQL and Visual Explain

•   Exposure to diverse platforms and operating systems, including current and emerging technologies.

• Exposure to Aldon ACMS, Hawkeye, DBU and Robot.

• Exposure to multiple development methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile.

•  Familiar with System I printing; different methods of working with overlays and creating overlays from PDF and Quark print files.
