PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide technical leadership in the application, design and support of Protection, Control, Automation and Communication products for electrical power systems. Manage or coordinate engineering projects of significance to the company. Lead application design and testing for new product development and enhancement of new products.
QUANTIFIABLE DIMENSIONS:
Deliver new products and product enhancements as per project schedule with zero defects
Work with project managers to create or apply existing technology to solve customer issues
Protect new inventions
NATURE OF POSITION:
� Prepare system level and detailed protection, control, automation and communication application requirements for feeders, transformers, motors, generators etc
� Develop and analyze product specifications
� Develop specialized functional tests to meet product specifications
� Write test plans, conduct tests, and evaluate test results
� Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks, and design and test documentation
� Lead design reviews, and analyze concepts and cost effectiveness of the product designs. Review the software architecture and implementation
� Coordinate activities with Hardware and Software Design Engineers, Test Engineers, Consultants, Supply Management and Manufacturing personnel
� Provide consulting services to customer applications, and assist product managers and regional technical managers in resolving product application issues
� Prepare and maintain project notebooks, design and test documentation, and user documentation
� Write papers, participate in technical meetings, seminars, and conferences
� Protect inventions following ABB intellectual property guidelines
� Ensure that development documentation protocols and procedures are followed in accordance with established processes
� Meet project schedule
� Prepare and maintain product cost estimates, project plans and lead projects
May require some travel (domestic as well as international)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience: 11+ and 8+ years of hands on experience for applicants with MS and PhD respectively
Experience in power system protection design and product application either at a protection products design/manufacturing environment or at a power utility. Combined experience in both product development and utility environment is a plus.
Experience with protection product testing, both in non real-time and real-time environments, including simulation and field testing
Must have a good experience in Matlab, C desirable
Project management experience using MS Projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
Strong distribution protection application knowledge
Communication protocols (61850, DNP, Modbus) knowledge desirable
Power system operating practices knowledge
Knowledge about real-time embedded system
Effective oral, writing and documentation skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Technical leadership ability and ability to lead independently a group of prefessionals
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Willing to relocate to Bethlehem, PA area
