Job Description:
EG&G has been a leading provider of technical services to the U.S. Government for over 50 years. We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer highly experienced within the realm of structures engineering, fracture & durability, external loads, and/or static strength on primary structure to:. (Primary structure is the load-bearing structure like an automobile frame.) Experience with finite element modeling is highly desirable. The individual will provide aircraft structural design analysis, research and development support to the B-52 Program office as well as the following:1. Serves as project engineer in support of the engineering definition, development, and verification of aeronautical weapon systems. This includes the application of broad engineering knowledge in analyzing and originating solutions to structural issues in the field and major modifications to the B-52. Assists in the performance of tasks or phases of a major project that require the application of basic engineering theory and principles in technical areas of aircraft structures with specific knowledge of composite structures.2. Defines the aircraft structural capabilities and/or requirements for modified weapon systems. Participates in the formulation of integrated decisions involving the airframe and structural systems areas. Conducts feasibility studies as required and makes recommendations based on the results obtained. Exercises systems engineering and technical management skills in assuring that timely and adequate technical support, in assigned functional areas, is applied in the process of developing, acquiring and/or modifying aeronautical weapon systems. Coordinates, integrates, and directs engineering activities in the structural technical areas.3. Provides engineering support for environmental control systems, electrical power, crew station, and other flight systems considerations associated with the integration of avionics modifications to the B-52. Provides technical direction for engineering control of their interfaces with other aircraft systems to assure mission performance and structural life of the modified weapon system. Makes engineering decisions on engineering change proposals and coordinates all section inputs into the weapon system requirements.4. Maintains an expert knowledge of airframe system design to assist in troubleshooting deficiency reports on aircraft in service to facilitate incorporation of required improvements.5. Interprets operational requirements, determines airframe structural requirements, analyzes design trade-offs within limitation imposed by cost, priorities, production schedules and supporting requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related scientific field and at least 10 years of job-related experience or equivalent or an associate's degree with 10 years of applicable experience. Demonstrated capability to interface with customers and provide direction to technically qualified personnel is preferred. Must have knowledge of aircraft structural design,loads, strengths and weapons systems. Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Some positions may require the ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software. Position requires a current DoD Secret Security Clearance, with investigation/review having been conducted within the past 5 years.
