Description
The Advocate in Newark, Ohio has an immediate opening for a full-time USA Today Direct-To-Plate Technician. The USA Today Direct-To-Plate Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pre-press department’s direct-to-plate system; ensuring the quality of plates output by the direct-to-plate equipment meet the quality standards set forth by USA Today and Gannett Newspapers. This position is also responsible for paginating 5 daily newspapers and 4 weekly products (Pataskala Snapshots, MVM, Sentinel and Pataskala).
1. Evaluates and ensures quality of imaged plates. Ensures Barco imagers, DMX imagers
and off-line plate bender/punch meet quality standards of USA Today and Gannett
Newspapers.
2. Repairs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical, mechanical and optical issues on all
plate room equipment. Maintains and updates maintenance logs. Prepares technical
reports recording equipment maintenance, failures, preventative maintenance and
consumable inventories.
3. Paginates 5 day newspapers and 4 weekly newspapers using the Mactive system.
4. Daily operation of the plateroom and related equipment:
- Preventive maintenance and testing procedures
- Receives site plans and enters production plans into page pairing software
- Loads plates into cassettes/imagers
- Unloads plates from plate processor output tray
- Punches and bends plates on plate benders as necessary
- Manages PC-based page management software (News Way and Arkitex) ensuring
pages are received and processed in accordance to daily site plans
- Prepares print site documentation and reports
- Performs daily shutdown procedures

Requirements
· Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent of 2 years electronic and/or electrical
repair and maintenance
· Minimum of 3 years electronic/electro-mechanical repair (6 years preferred)
· Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical blueprints, flow charts, etc.
