The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) provides military intelligence information to warfighters, defense policymakers and force planners in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.


The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has critically important Science and Engineering professional positions for individuals who are qualified for these outstanding opportunities. 

 

DIA is a Department of Defense combat support agency and an important member of the United States Intelligence Community.  DIA provides military intelligence to warfighters, defense policymakers and force planners in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.  Its vital intelligence work supports U.S. military planning and operations and weapon systems acquisition.

 

The Defense Intelligence Agency relies on a variety of Science and Engineering personnel to safeguard the nation and its citizens by developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating policies, procedures and practices and performing other critical tasks in numerous technical areas.

DIA’s Scientists and Engineers track and report on the current and projected status of foreign nations’ chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear warfare programs. Evaluate their capabilities, intentions, policies, vulnerabilities and security in support of US counterproliferation efforts. Produce medical intelligence, including foreign military and civilian health care capabilities. Assess worldwide infectious disease trends and global environmental and toxic industrial chemical health risks, as well as advances in foreign biotechnology.  They also reduce the threat from foreign missile and directed energy weapon systems, enhance the readiness of US military forces, and improve the survivability and effectiveness of both US and Allied weapon systems in support of the Department of Defense. They evaluate foreign surface-to-air, short-range ballistic, anti-tank guided and anti-ballistic missiles and analyze integrated air defenses, ground-based anti-satellite systems, and command, control, communication and computer systems.


DIA scientists and engineers apply their expertise in the following occupational subspecialties:

 

  • Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Intelligence Support US efforts to stop the spread of WMD to adversary nations and terrorists; assess the status, security and technology threat from biological, nuclear and chemical weapons worldwide.
  • Missile & Space Intelligence Assess foreign air defense; short-range ballistic, anti-tank guided and antiballistic missile systems; and command and control components.
  • Medical IntelligenceInvestigate foreign military and civilian health care capabilities and trends, worldwide infectious diseases, environmental health risks to deployed military personnel, and significant foreign biotechnology.
  • Measurement & Signature Intelligence (MASINT) Oversee development, coordination, direction and implementation of the US MASINT system to provide technical, actionable intelligence for military operations; counterterrorism; counterproliferation; arms control; treaty monitoring; and counterdrug and environmental monitoring during peacetime, natural disasters, crisis or war.
 


Job Requirements 

Required Experience: Qualified Science and Engineering candidates bring with them to DIA related experience and/or a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.  Candidates must also have the expertise to develop logical thoughts into well-written documents such as studies, reports, instructions and guides. Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey ideas fully and accurately in discussions, briefings and other presentations. Effective interpersonal skills, professional ethics and self-motivation. The flexibility to serve anywhere in the world, as required, on a moment’s notice. The ability to pass random drug tests and complete a counterintelligence polygraph examination successfully. And, familiarity with automated systems and tools.

 

Required Education:  Baccalaureate or advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a field such as engineering, physical or life science, political science, regional studies, international affairs, geography, economics or other appropriate area.
