partnering clients.
2. Why should I work for Tradesmen when I can find my own jobs?
A: With more than 3,500 active clients across America, Tradesmen takes both the worry, and the work, out of your job search. We work with many contractors in your area so that we are able to provide a steady stream of jobs for our workers. Additionally, it is our full time job to ensure that our workers stay busy. Our employees consistently comment that working for Tradesmen has reduced the amount of time that they were out of work.
3. In general, what is Tradesmen looking for in an employee?
A. Simply put, we’re highly selective, committed to hiring only those individuals who showcase these characteristics:
- Exceptional abilities at Apprentice, Journeyman or Leadman levels
- Good solid work ethic
- Unwavering reliability
- Always safety-minded
- Strong personal values
- Desire to consistently improve skills
- Drug-Free at all times
4. How should I prepare for the interview; what should I bring?
A: Our objective during an interview is to gain an extensive understanding of your employment background and the skills you possess, so that we can offer you the jobs that best meet your qualifications. Please bring your valid driver's license and details of your work history covering the past three years including verifiable references. Finally, you must show that you have reliable transportation.
5. How do you assess my skill level; do you provide skill testing?
A. Yes. As a means to ensure you’re being paid top dollar for the skills you bring to our team, all new hires – as a condition of hire – complete a skill assessment developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The assessment gives you a true measurement of your skills based on a standardized, nationally accredited competency-based curriculum. Not only does the test measure your skills, it also provides a detail training prescription that will enable you – if you elect to – choose training classes that are specific to your needs.
6. How much will I be paid when I join Tradesmen?
A: We will pay a competitive market wage for you once you have completed our hiring process and provided us with details of your skills, abilities, and previous employment experience. We make every effort to ensure you will be paid at or above the industry standard for your qualifications. This includes the use of yearly salary surveys in each of the markets where we do business, as well as discussions with our clients about the pay levels they are offering for similar positions across the country.
7. Do you offer overtime?
A: Many of the jobs that Tradesmen employees work on offer the employee opportunities to work overtime. If you want to put in the extra hours, you will find that Tradesmen will generally provide you with the opportunity to do so.
8. Can I refer a friend to work for Tradesmen International?
A: Absolutely. We encourage all employees to refer as many skilled craftsmen as possible. In fact, you'll receive cash bonuses and other incentives for your referrals once they have worked a qualifying period with Tradesmen International.
9. If I join Tradesmen’s health benefit program, how do I find out if my doctor is part of the plan?
A: Please feel free to discuss this issue in your interview, as any Tradesmen field office can help you determine if your current doctor is part of the Tradesmen preferred provider plan. If you are already an employee, simply contact your local office or call 1.800.573.0850 and ask the Benefits Coordinator.
10. Are there any fees or charges to me if I work for Tradesmen?

When tasks change or new projects begin, we call into our Tradesmen representative and explain the type of construction and the approximate duration of the project. As our workload changes so does our manpower needs. Instead of keeping full time employees during these times, we simply return the craftsman back to Tradesmen. It is easy, less overhead and a smarter way to do business in the ever-changing economy and construction industry.

Tradesmen consistently enables us to achieve the optimum balance of full time and variable skilled craftsmen. By doing so, we’ve greatly improved our labor productivity while at the same time reducing our overall labor costs. Equally as important is Tradesmen’s emphasis on safety. Knowing it’s mandatory for all their craftsmen to complete a 10-Hour OSHA compliant safety course, makes our partnership with them that much stronger.

We utilized Tradesmen as a supplement source of manpower for a large industrial project. They supplied us approximately 150 electricians with craft skills of various requests. They did not just send us “warm bodies”, nor did they forget about their employees. Their Field Representative managed their human needs, our project demands and obligated himself and his firm until project completion.

When I have called Tradesmen for staffing assistance they have had a minimal amount of time to produce quality, qualified individuals. I have always been pleasantly surprised with the type and number of people they have supplied.

Continued Education and Construction Training
We hire the best craftsmen candidates and remain committed to developing and improving their craftsmanship. This commitment is evidenced through the company’s development of the Construction Craft Academy and through skill training opportunities available to all employees at select Tradesmen field offices to help each craftsmen build his or her construction career.
Tradesmen enables its employees to gain knowledge of the basics of their trade, learn advanced skills, study new techniques, and even cross-train into other trades using the construction industry’s most widely practiced construction training curriculum, NCCER’s Contren Learning Series. Employees can enroll in task-specific training or in a full construction apprenticeship training program that, upon graduation, will give each all the classroom and laboratory training hours required by the U.S. Department of Labor to achieve journey-level status. Journey-level status will be attained after a specific number of On-the-Job Training Hours, also required by the DOL, are satisfied.
Employee Training Support
As a Tradesmen employee, you may be eligible for the following:
- Preferred Employee Assistance – We’re pleased to offer Tradesmen International employees significant tuition assistance on full craft training programs or skill specific classes.
- Joseph O. Wesley Scholarship< – Employees who have already completed at least one level of the Contren Learning Series curriculum may apply for one of ten $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded per school year.
- Guaranteed Wage Increase Review – Your income should grow as you improve your skills and become more valuable on the jobsite. As a result, upon completion of each program level, you will be eligible for an income review that will focus on your skill growth and performance factors.
- Government Grants – The Construction Craft Academy has been approved for government grant money that is available to individuals who meet a specific government criterion.
- Student Loans – The company has established relationships with private funding institutions that have agreed to provide Construction Craft Academy students attractive loan rates and extended payback conditions.

Our core values of Safety, Honesty, Customer Responsiveness and Quality drive our business. All of our employees gladly accept and abide by these values which affect every aspect of our business.
Safety
Safety is our company’s number one core value, and we take it exceptionally serious. So serious, that completing an OSHA Compliant Safety Training Course is a “condition of hire” for all our craftsmen and field office personnel. There are no exceptions.
A company-wide Safety Program, implemented in our first year of business, encourages self-safety while also fostering alertness among co-workers. The program provides on-going safety training opportunities and includes incentives for our craftsmen to stay accident-free.
Our Safety Department is headed up by a corporate-based National Safety Director who supervises a team of Safety Specialists positioned at each and every Tradesmen office across America.
Our Company’s safety goal is simple, yet significant:
Increase Safety Awareness, Maintain Safe Behavior
and Prevent Accidents Among Our Employees
and Our Clients’ Employees.
Tradesmen International conducts our own safety training with OSHA-Authorized instructors who are full-time Tradesmen employees. Rest assured that when any Tradesmen employee steps onto your jobsite, they’ll be prepared with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and armed with a solid understanding of, and personal commitment to, safety.
It should also be noted that our Field Representatives and Safety Specialists are trained in safety site evaluations. It is their responsibility to visit jobsites to ensure on-going safe behavior and safe working environments for all workers.
Client Safety Training
We offer various types of Safety Training, including both 10-Hour and 30-Hour OSHA training programs, in addition to Safety Program Development services to all construction companies. This training is conducted at our local field offices by our OSHA Certified instructors. We would be pleased to set up a meeting with you and one of our local Safety Specialists who can be reached at the Tradesmen location nearest you, or by asking for our National Safety Director at 800.573.0850.
Honesty
On an equal level of importance to safety, honesty ensures that all our clients are treated fairly and know what to expect when working with Tradesmen. With an honest assessment of our employees’ skill levels, we supply our clients workers who meet or exceed their expectations. If we are unable to meet a specific skill level requested, we’ll notify you immediately and offer logical alternatives. Accuracy in craftsmanship is critical to your productivity and we will never knowingly fill a request with a worker that doesn’t meet your needs.
Customer Responsiveness
Being quick to respond to our client needs is what sets us apart. We begin by asking you questions that enable us to pinpoint your specific skilled labor need. We then select the right person for a job and make sure they arrive at the job on time and with their own tools. We address any concerns and monitor the job to completion with on-site visits by our field and safety representatives. This level of customer responsiveness increases productivity, making us a valuable partner to the contractors we serve.
Quality
Providing our clients the best value for every dollar they spend with us is only possible by ensuring we provide the best quality service and craftsmen available in the industry. In our estimation, top quality
can only be achieved by investing in both our skilled trade people and our field office personnel.
We do so by requiring in-depth safety training for 100% of our field office and craftsmen employees. In addition, we offer NCCER skill training opportunities for our employees. Our field office personnel are required to participate in on-going training workshops held at our corporate offices. These workshops
are truly comprehensive and ensure that those individuals who service your needs understand your business, the particulars of the various trades, and how to assist all sizes of contractors in maximizing their labor productivity while reducing overall labor costs. All Tradesmen International employees,
whether craftsmen or office staff, are evaluated consistently in order to make certain clients
receive service and skill expertise that exceed expectations.
Tradesmen International lays the foundation by identifying, hiring and training the best people, improving working conditions and using its four core values to guide decisions. Each employee is singularly responsible for living these values and representing the company. We prove ourselves everyday by working safely, working with pride, doing what we say we’ll do, and responding to our clients’ needs. Future growth depends on this daily demonstration of the values that have characterized this entire company from day one.
