Make a living and make a difference
At many organizations, financial results are the bottom line, and reason enough to celebrate. At Providence, the numbers are just the beginning. The really exciting thing is not how much we earn, it's how much we give and how many lives we touch. The programs and services paid for by our annual charity care activities would take several screens to list. The stories of those who have been touched by these efforts could fill volumes. In 2006 alone we provided nearly half a billion dollars in charity care and other community services.
As employees of Providence we talk a lot about operational excellence. We work hard to improve efficiency and lower costs. We focus on hiring the best talent and implementing the latest technology. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of quality. And we do it all, not for profit; We do it for people.
At Providence people are our bottom line. That’s what really sets us apart as a health care provider and as an employer. We offer an environment founded on a pervasive belief in the value of working together toward the greater good.
A Heritage of Compassionate Service
Providence Health & Services was founded nearly 150 years ago by a handful of capable and determined Catholic Sisters of Providence. Today, with 29 hospitals and dozens of other community service organizations, the Providence mission remains the same: provide compassionate care for those in need, especially the poor and the vulnerable. This simple, yet powerful, objective is reflected in everything we do from the quality of our care to how we treat one another as members of the Providence team.
Our health care facilities are widely recognized in their communities for excellence, both as treatment centers and as places to work.
Scope of Operations
Providence Health & Services is a not-for-profit organization extending across a five-state area—from Alaska through Washington, Montana, Oregon, and California.
With the recent unification of Providence Health System and Providence Services, we now employ more than 52,000 employees, operate 29 acute-care hospitals, and more than 35 non-acute-care facilities, as well as physician clinics, health plans, and numerous other health and education services.
Our award-winning acute care hospitals are consistently recognized for excellence in patient care, including award-winning magnet medical centers that practice nurse-directive care and recognized critical services such as cardiac, cardiovascular, obstetrics, respiratory and stroke care.
The Providence system also operates comprehensive homecare and hospice services, primary care clinics, and educational facilities. Providence Health Plans cover more than 700,000 members.
An Environment of Diversity
We honor and value the ethnic, spiritual and religious diversity of everyone. Although Providence is a Catholic Health Care organization, we have no expectation that employees adhere to any set of beliefs other than a belief in the value of providing care to those most in need. At Providence this Mission is carried out by a diverse cross section of employees, partners and volunteers.
At the core of everything we do is an abiding mission to treat people with compassion and respect, including and especially those most vulnerable and most in need.
