JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of the treatment nurse position is to participate in and oversee the provisions of resident care as prescribed by the attending physician, consistent with accepted standards of care and within the scope of LPN or RN training and licensure. This position will also provide direct resident care, and assigns duties to subordinate LPN’s or RNs, and/or nursing assistants as appropriate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (list specific job duties)
A. Observes, assesses and reports resident’s condition/changes and documents. All new or readmitted resident skin will be reviewed upon admission, documented, and plans will be developed for the appropriate treatment plan. This includes diet, nutritional supplements, mattresses, equipment, and treatments. Evaluates the need for review of the assessment by trained specialized professionals. Works with the charge nurses to ensure treatments are completed in a timely manner.
B. Assists in collection of data relevant to resident assessment and evaluation.
C. Consults with Certified Wound Nurse and Quality Assurance Committee regarding changes in resident’s skin condition.
D. Receives, transcribes, and executes physician’s orders. The treatment nurse should work with the charge nurses to ensure all treatments are completed as ordered and in a timely manner.
E. Assures implementation of care plans as directed. Ensure all plans of care are updated as needed.
F. Completes reports required in timely manner and oversees/monitors functions and activities of subordinate staff. A pressure wound log and non pressure wound log will be submitted weekly to the DON, Administrator, and Dietary Manager and Quality Assurance Committee.
G. Contributes to assurance of resident care consistent with accepted standards of care and established policy and procedure.
H. Provides in-service and training as needed to licensed nurses in appropriate treatment, assessment, wound care protocol and aseptic/sterile technique.
I. Provides in-service and training to nursing staff on the prevention of wounds and assists in the coordination of services to ensure professional standards are met.
J. Assumes responsibility for the facility’s wound care program.
