The ambulatory EMR group is charged with implementing and supporting electronic medical records for outpatient clinical sites at NYULMC and certain affiliated private physician practices. This includes the implementation of the Epic System at NYU Hospital Systems FGP and Voluntary affiliated practices as well as hospital based clinics. The NYULMC methodology includes the implementation of the Epic model system content and workflows as well as some very carefully managed NYU specific workflows. In addition, the ambulatory EMR group is charged with maintaining the legacy EMR with minimal staff and insuring that user requests for new features, interfaces etc. are carefully managed and escalated for approval.
Site-specific work includes workflow analysis, clinical content review and configuration, development of project scope, project management, custom document and report design, testing, activation, and support. In addition, the group provides the design guidelines for system-wide EMR interoperability including ancillary interfaces for clinical and demographic data.
The Director of Ambulatory EMR manages all activities of the ambulatory EMR group. He or she will establish a first-class team through hiring of new positions and adjustments to existing staff and/or staff assignments as necessary. The Director will supervise and manage up to twenty employees plus consultants, setting priorities and direction for the team and distributing resources within the group toward current client (practice site) requirements. In some cases the Director will manage collaborative peer teams with matrix reporting. The Director will be responsible for strategic development and for overseeing large scale multi-year projects dealing with many different stakeholders including clinical, operations, and technical groups within the institution, as well as collaborating peer teams with matrix reporting.
Requirements
Principal Responsibilities:
I. Personnel Management

II. Resource Management

B. Appropriately advocates for the resource needs of the EMR team according to workload.
III. Financial Management
A. Maintains accurate financial records compliant with the accounting and budgetary requirements of the institution.
B. Prepares appropriate annual capital and operating budget requests.
C. Adheres to planned budgets and provides appropriate documentation for variances and exceptions.
D. Maintains and tracks detailed invoices for client site license usage, implementation, support, training, and other expenditures.
E. Maintains and updates EMR business plan for legacy systems and participates with operational owners of Epic system in Financial plan.
IV. EMR Marketing
A. Contributes to the development and execution of the Epic Marketing Plan. Participates in the strategy for maintaining customer satisfaction of existing legacy system customers.
B. Participates in the maintenance and implementation of marketing plan, including web and print materials, physician outreach, demonstrations, and other promotions.
C. Works with vendors and institutional public relations staff to promote the program externally.
V. EMR Implementation
A. Manages implementation queue effectively
B. Delivers on-time and on-budget system implementations
C. Establishes and measures implementation performance with customer-satisfaction, workflow, and productivity metrics.
VI. EMR Development
A. Maintains current knowledge of the NYUMC EMR and other products in the competitive marketplace.
B. Maintains current knowledge of other third-party hardware and software products as well as in-house applications that may enhance the NYUMC EMR.
C. Maintains current knowledge of the application related to use, configuration, deployment, and maintenance.
D. Maintains current knowledge of the architecture and engineering of the application as deployed at NYUMC.
E. Communicates with users to understand requirements and needed enhancements.
F. Works with vendor(s) to align future development, enhancements, and new products with NYUMC-specific needs.
G. Develops strategic vision related to use, configuration, architecture, and engineering of the application at NYUMC.
H. Implements strategic vision appropriately with respect to use, configuration, architecture, and engineering of the application at NYUMC, including providing the business case for additional investment in new technologies.
VII. EMR Support
A. Develops, manages, and maintains appropriate support infrastructure for application.
B. Manages relationships with appropriate departments and organizations, when appropriate, for integration of support (e.g. outsourced helpdesk).
C. Manages user expectations and communication with regard to support service availability, responsiveness, levels of service, and fees.
VIII. EMR Training
A. Effectively collaborates with the NYULMC Training Team to assist in the development and delivery of EMR Training curriculum.
