Programs for Living, Understanding, and Services 

The staff and governing body of PLUS work together to ensure a residential setting that is appropriate to each consumer's needs and abilities, which autistic and developmentally disabled individuals need to live meaningful and productive lives.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Works with PLUS consumers in community residential programs to perform assistive duties.

Responsible to:    Nurse, Program Manager, Supervisor


MAJOR DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accompany consumers to doctors' offices and on other trips outside the home, providing transportation, assistance, and companionship.
  • After completion of the AMAP course, administer prescribed medications under written direction of physician or as directed by home care nurse and aide.
  • Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, and problems in order to report and discuss observations with a supervisor.
  • Provide patients with help moving in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs or autos, and with dressing and grooming.
  • Change bed linens, wash patients' laundry, and clean patients' quarters.
  • Provide light housekeeping duties when ordered.
  • Entertain, converse with, or read aloud to patients to keep them mentally healthy and alert.
  • Serve meals to patients according to prescribed diets.
  • Check patients' vital signs such as pulse, temperature and respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Apply preparations and treatments.
  • Provide direct patient care such as assisting with bathing, eating, dressing, and walking.
  • Turn and reposition bedridden patients.  Provide ADL support when consumers have toileting accidents.
  • Report any change in condition or any concern to the nurse.
