Indian Rivers is a comprehensive mental health center; 100% of our services are devoted to providing mental health prevention and treatment to the citizen's of Bibb, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties.

Our Mental Illness division provides an array of residential services ranging from a short term crisis residential unit to supported apartment living. Our current residential capacity is 73 community based beds. We provide outpatient services such as psychotherapy and psychiatric care in locations across our service area. We provide case management and skills training service to those's working toward recovery but continue to require supports to maintain independent living status within the community. We also provide crisis intervention service available 24 hours, 7 days per week for those in psychiatric crisis.
Our Mental Retardation division provides residential service to 62 individuals living in the community in a supervised setting. Community based skills training is also provided to more that 120 additional individuals.
Essential duties and responsibilities for Direct Care
1. Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Indian Rivers Mental Health Center policies and procedures.
2. Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards.
3. Ensure all safety, fire prevention, and health measures are followed while on duty.
4. Ensure that a good driving record is maintained at all times, particularly in transporting consumers or driving on center related business.
5. Provide transportation for consumers as needed and take them to appointments and outings as assigned.
6. Work weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
7. Record all important information on Individual Record of Events sheets and in the Daily Log, and ensure that appropriate information is communicated to other staff regarding appointments and other relevant consumer matters.
8. Attend in-service trainings as scheduled.
9. Implement planned program for leisure time activities.
10. Assist and ensure consumers’ attendance to scheduled program activities/groups.
11. Document appropriate information in consumer records promptly and accurately.
12. Ensure cleanliness of facility.
13. Perform routine checks of consumers, ensuring appropriateness and safety, providing monitoring of consumers at all times while on duty.
14. Participate in the development of consumers’ habilitation plans and in other scheduled team meetings.
15. Carry out training programs as assigned and record training data in a timely manner.
16. Carry out behavior management programs and/or behavior strategies as outlined. Assist RCSII State Certification Staff and others, as needed, during monitoring site visits.
17. Document medication administered accurately.
