Under the direction of the Provost, the Dean of Natural Science and Math (NSM) Division plans, organizes, administers, develops and evaluates the projects and activities of assigned academic programs; provides leadership for faculty and staff to offer high quality educational services; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel and works collegially with faculty and staff. The Division Dean supervises both full-time and part-time faculty, classified personnel, and student workers. The NSM Division includes the following disciplines and programs: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, mathematics, computer science, massage therapy, physical education, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). Programs in facility maintenance and plumbing are under development.
The Dean is responsible for administering the instructional program of an academic division, creating and sustaining an environment of academic excellence and developing and implementing courses and programs of study which meet students' needs and the needs of the business sector. The Division includes 23 full-time faculty and staff along with over 30 adjunct faculty. The Division Dean may also be required to oversee campus or college level activities outside of the division.
The Woodbridge Campus is the third largest of the six campuses of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). NOVA is Virginia's largest institution of higher education and one of America's largest community colleges. The Woodbridge Campus leadership team and the NSM faculty are engaged in planning and designing a new 84,000 square foot academic building that will house new science classrooms and labs. The dean will join this process as it is under way.
