Balfour Beatty Construction

Overview

At Balfour Beatty Construction, our vision is to differentiate ourselves so significantly that we change the industry. How? By making service delivery our top priority, one relationship at a time.

Whether you’re building a hospital or a hotel, a school or a skyscraper, an airport or an office park, you can depend on Balfour Beatty Construction to provide more. More talent. More leadership. More teamwork. More personal attention. More of what you expect (and deserve) from your construction partner.

  • The Lesotho Highlands Water Project, 2002

  • Nam Cheong Station, Hong Kong, 2003

  • Culture

We celebrate success by celebrating each other. Our employees are the face, voice, and heart of our company. We take great pride in finding ways to promote a working environment that encourages teamwork, values family, and continually offers creative ways to have fun. And a big part of our culture can be found in Balfour Beatty Spirit! — an in-house team created specifically to promote celebrations within our employee family. The following are just a few examples of the ways in which Balfour Beatty Spirit! helps celebrate our unique culture: Fight Night — A grassroots event that started when employees wanted to help fellow teammates in their fight against cancer. Employees wear elaborate costumes and "battle" each other in arm wrestling matches and the event raises over $10,000 each year for cancer research and treatment. Chili Cook-offs — Departments and jobsite teams face-off as subcontractors, clients, and architects judge the best down-home chili each team has to offer. And every year, the age-old question arises: "Does real chili have beans or not?" Family Day — School-aged kids spend a day on the job with Mom or Dad to learn more about work, recent projects, and how we celebrate the people who make up the Balfour Beatty Construction family.

The project’s scope also includes the demolition of all structures north of the Public Safety Center. This is our second successful team effort with Barnhill Contracting. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and will be completed in 2013.

    1201 K Street

JBG Companies has selected Balfour Beatty Construction to provide preconstruction services for their project at 1201 K Street, in Washington, D.C. The project will be a 370,000 square-foot office building with possible restaurant/retail on the ground floor. The building, designed for LEED Silver certification, will have green features such as natural lighting through sky lobbies and automatic louvers. Stairways will be strategically placed to encourage walking, rather than riding elevators for short distances. 1201 K Street is slated to break ground in 2009.
