Balfour Beatty Construction, in a joint venture with Barnhill Contracting, was recently awarded the Wake County Justice Center project in Raleigh, North Carolina. This $215 million project consists of a criminal courthouse, public records/county administration, high security parking for 300 vehicles, central energy plant for county-owned downtown facilities, and the connection to the existing courthouse tunnel. The project’s scope also includes the demolition of all structures north of the Public Safety Center. This is our second successful team effort with Barnhill Contracting. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and will be completed in 2013.
A Joint Win
Balfour Beatty Moseley LLC has been awarded an $88 million design-build contract with the Virginia Department of Corrections via Virginia's Public-Private Infrastructure Act of 2002 (PPEA) for the Mount Rogers Correctional Facility. The medium security, 1,024-bed correctional facility is located in the Mount Rogers Planning District in Southwest Virginia. The project includes four central housing buildings with 256 cells on two levels, as well as support facilities, utilities, and sitework.
1201 K Street
JBG Companies has selected Balfour Beatty Construction to provide preconstruction services for their project at 1201 K Street, in Washington, D.C. The project will be a 370,000 square-foot office building with possible restaurant/retail on the ground floor. The building, designed for LEED Silver certification, will have green features such as natural lighting through sky lobbies and automatic louvers. Stairways will be strategically placed to encourage walking, rather than riding elevators for short distances. 1201 K Street is slated to break ground in 2009.
