Benefits
We have decided to take our present graduate program one step further by introducing Volvo Group International Graduate Program So far, around 100 Volvo Group employees have taken part in the corporation-wide graduate program which started in 2003 in Sweden. The idea is to recruit graduates from university for a permanent full time employment at Volvo. During the first year of their employment, the participants get to create networks that cross company boundaries and allow them to learn from each other’s knowledge and experiences. This is done through job rotation and project missions at different departments and companies in the group, internship abroad, and through training sessions with other members of the program. Starting in March 2008, Volvo Group is introducing a new international program that will replace the existing program. This program resembles the previous one in containing intense practice at the Volvo Group companies around the world in order for the participants to get a holistic view of the group and its business. The main difference is that we will recruit participants in countries around the world. They will come together in common training sessions and participation in common projects. The second international program will start in September 2008. In this program, the following companies will be taking part: Volvo Trucks, Volvo Buses, Volvo Penta, Asia Truck Operations, Volvo Powertrain, Volvo 3P, Volvo Parts, Volvo IT and Volvo Logistics. We will be recruiting participants in the following countries: China, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Poland, Sweden, and USA.
Career Opportunities
The Volvo Group-companies offer a wide range of internship positions for students each year –notably in such areas as product development, production, finance and administration.

Internships allow students to gain exposure to Volvo’s organizational culture and open the possibilities of a full-time position upon graduation. The Volvo Group typically offers internship opportunities during the holidays or summer months.

Many Volvo Group companies have different co-operations with local schools and Universities and offer internships during the school semesters. The idea with the internship is to complement the education with some relevant work experience to learn and develop skills in specific business areas and at the same time explore career options.

Meghan, Organizational Development
1. How did you come to join the Volvo Group?
In 1992 I started to work part-time for Volvo Aero Services, formally The AGES Group as a traffic assistant.

2. Tell us about your current role and its main responsibilities.
I am a Senior Manager of Organizational Development with two main roles. My team supports the business areas to understand their system needs and assisting IT to develop, test and train the end users. My other role is with Operational Development (OD) as an OD Coordinator and Internal Consultant (IC) which was recently launched in 2007.

3. Have you had other roles and assignments in the Group?
Since 1992, I’ve worked in Logistics, Legal, Process Management and IT.

What would you like to do in the future in the Group?
I enjoy working with process improvements, managing personnel and project management.

4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group? ( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
Through OD and Six Sigma training, I’ve had opportunities to work with other employees within the Volvo Group. My experience has been that people are interested in making the company better. I’ve also observed that Volvo employees tend to be good at planning and there is always a high level of respect for colleagues.

5. Why do you think someone should consider working for a Volvo Group company?
Volvo cares about their employees; having young children I’ve been fortunate to have a nice balance between my family and work life. Another benefit is that Volvo is a large organization with many opportunities to work in various roles and locations.

Stephen, District Parts Manager
1. How did you come to join the Volvo Group?
I began working as a contract employee for VTNA in the Aftermarket Pricing Department as an Analyst. I really enjoyed the challenge of the position and a few months later offered a full-time position.

2. Tell us about your current role and its main responsibilities.
I was hired as a District Parts Manager trainee. The program was designed to have a DPM ready to go when any of the other DPM's retired. This trainee position involved intense training classes, working in the parts department of dealerships for days at a time (parts counter, warehouse, etc.) and traveling with current DPM's. I worked as a trainee for just over a year before I had my own district. Luckily for me, my predecessor gave 6 months notice and it allowed me to travel with him and learn so much more about the business and my future district.

The main responsibilities are calling on Parts Managers at 19 Mack/Volvo Trucks dealerships in the Southeast United States. I am the liaison between corporate and the dealerships.

3. Have you had other her roles and assignments in the Group? What would you like to do in the future in the Group?
The only other role I had was the Aftermarket Parts Analyst. I would like to work the rest of my career with the Volvo Group. As far as future roles, that will be on down the road as I enjoy my current position.

4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group? ( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
Everyone works together for one common goal. That is to satisfy our customers/dealers and keep our trucks on the road. If the field reps do not have the proper support we need from corporate, it makes our brand name suffer. The quicker the dealership can get a truck up and running, the happier the end customer is with our brand. Therefore, the customer is likely to trust and purchase the brand in the future. Customers come first!

5. Why do you think someone should consider working for a Volvo Group company?
The Volvo Group is world renown for their products. Volvo Group currently has 90,000+ employees and continues to grow. There are so many opportunities for advancement with a presence in emerging markets, customers in 180 countries and 19 companies within the Volvo Group. The sky is the limit for the Volvo Group!
Graduate Programs
For many years the Volvo Group has run graduate programs for new graduates. The aim is to give these highly qualified new recruits a broad over view of our company and provide a number of tools in order to give them a good start in their career.

Society involvement
Volvo is often one of the major employers in the communities where our production and development sites are located. And therefore a natural and important part of the society.

Together with local authorities and citizens we try to contribute to a positive local development. The decentralized structure of Volvo is also demonstrated by a high degree of freedom for local initiatives.
Long term sponsorships
Sport and culture have been the focus of the Volvo Group’s sponsorship since the 1970s.

The activities that the Volvo Group chooses to sponsor have points of reference with our customer groups. The goal of sponsorship is to create deeper relationships with our customers and to strengthen the Volvo Group’s brand.

Volvo currently has a couple of long-term sponsorship commitments: Volvo Ocean Race, Volvo golf tournaments and cultural events such as Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Göteborg Opera.
