Since our founding in 1928, we have been committed to improving the communities where our customers, agents and employees live and work. Investing in our communities is nothing new to Farmers. We have been proud, active partners in bettering the lives of our neighbors across the country for many decades.

We continue to invest considerable resources in programs that improve safety, enhance educational opportunity, and increase civic participation in communities across America. In addition to our institutional support for these causes, we are undeniably proud of the thousands of Farmers agents and employees who generously contribute additional dollars and hours of volunteer time to organizations in their neighborhoods. In 2000 alone, more than 15,000 Farmers people donated more than 75,000 volunteer hours and raised more than $1.5 million for worthy causes, above and beyond Farmers corporate giving of $2.1 million.

Farmers has committed much to special initiatives which enhance the ability of our nation's teachers to engage students in becoming better citizens. In partnership with the National Council for the Social Studies, Farmers created The American Promise program in 1995. Through its citizenship education curriculum and videos, more than 100,000 teachers have been able to share with their students the inspiring stories of citizens throughout the country who are improving their own communities.

Farmers believes every American is enriched by the many contributions made by diverse groups and cultures in the United States. To promote understanding, Farmers has created a program honoring Hispanic culture called Young Americanos. Young Americanos is a reflection of our commitment to the Latino community and to strengthening the bridges of communication and understanding among all the diverse cultures that make up the United States.
